They aren't "supposed" to be, colourdodge/screen would take care of that if you use PS

Great work, it doesn't HAVE to be transparent. Most C4Ds aren't, and that's sometimes a good thing.

If you wanna fix the black BG, just set it to colordodge/screen for PS and screen/lighten only/addition for GIMP. UBER nice C4D by the way.

Yes, a render. Render is also what you (generally) call fractals and C4Ds. Some C4D's don't have transparent backgrounds because it would be unnecessary, you're supposed to put it on Lighten, Screen etc. a blending mode to achieve awesome effects.
