No, it looks like a crop because the preview shows it with a black background. But when you click for larger view, you can easily see the transparency, great job lego.

open the FULL render, and see that he cleared the entire top half leaving the effects, and a crap load of small edges/corners from the ships/planet. must have taken ages O.o

Those who said that it isn't a render can go bang their heads against the wall. Just because it looks like a stock doesn't mean it is, try layering the render over other backgrounds and you'll see what I mean. Beautiful work.
